If you’re moving to the DMV area with your family, one of the best ways to help your children integrate into their new city is to get them involved in one of the many sports opportunities available.
Sports on the Hill offers soccer, baseball, softball, football, basketball, wrestling, track and field, lacrosse, and field hockey. This affordable league is based in the Capitol Hill neighborhood and offers holiday/spring break and summer camps.
The Koa Sports League runs the leading youth sports groups in DC and Montgomery County (Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Silver Spring, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Wheaton, Kensington, Potomac, Glen Echo, Takoma Park). Their mission is “Shaping Kids’ Lives Through Sports,” through teams for baseball, field hockey, basketball, and flag football. Koa also offers summer camps.
Most counties Parks and Recreation departments offer affordable youth sports year-round. Teams include tackle football, cheer, basketball, baseball and softball, boxing, kickball, xoccer, tennis, and DC Speed (Track and Field).
YMCA of Metropolitan Washington also has locations that offer a variety of kids and teen sports including martial arts, gymnastics, tennis, and basketball.
